Keeping The Faith A priest and a rabbi are walking down the street. Think you’ve heard this one before? Not quite. In his directorial debut, Edward Norton (Fight Club) plays a Catholic priest who is best friends with a Jewish rabbi (Ben Stiller - There’s Something About Mary). Both of their congregations being based in the Upper West Side of New York City, and each being young and un-orthodox, things are going great. That is, until their childhood friend, Anna Riley, (Jenna Elfman - Dharma) re-enters their lives. This film might be considered by some to be predictable at best. I’ll go along with that theory. But there is no underlying pretension about being a meaningful piece of work that really has something important to say. This is entertainment at its best. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie - a good choice for Norton to debut his directing skills. With some lighthearted tenderness and a dash of heartfelt pain under his belt, Norton is well prepared to move onto something a little more serious his next time out. Rating: * * * 1/2 |
